Music is happiness

Our discovery of Marissa Nadler was the result of online stalkery gone awry. With a sirenic voice and an atmospheric, haunting, and wistful sound, Marissa Nadler is impossible to forget and easy to adore. This video for Mexican Summer reminds us of Wuthering Heights circa 1970 (Anna Calder-Marshall specifically), a movie we love for reasons we will not discuss in polite society. More Marissa Nadler!

Song bird (and producer) Lina, a recording artist formerly associated with Hidden Beach, has started her own record label Mood Star Recordings, but she still has her signature sound and style–R&B Soul with classic jazz influences. Listening to Lina is like hanging out with your favorite friend–the one who toes the line between funky and glamorous and always radiates positive energy. We fell in love with Stranger on this Earth, but love her follow up albums even more. More Lina.

We discovered this band while on a road trip 3 years ago in Austin. They were featured on the cover of a magazine and we felt nosy, so we checked them out. It was love at first listen. The Octopus Project have a sound they define as noise-rock; we call it deliriously happy and moodily beautiful. More The Octopus Project.
